A Rule-Based Approach for Converting Wikipedia Content into Semantic Relations

Abstract—In this paper, we propose a method for conversion from natural language into semantic relations. In t his r esearch, we focus o n t ext w ritten i n h ighly u nstructured form. The tools Stanford named entity recognizer and dependency parser are used to extract relevant information. The method is based on analysis of grammatical patterns of the sentences chosen from Wikipedia. The parse trees of sentences are examined in o rder t o c reate p atterns. R egular e xpressions a re used t o fetch t he r elated n odes o f t he p arse trees. I n addition t o t he g rammatical s tructure o f s entences, we a lso m ade u se o f t he named e ntities t o c reate semantic relations. Experiments on different types of relations showed that 71% and 82% success rates can be obtained for a threshold of 0.50 correctness rate.
