Edges Extraction Method based on Fractal and Wavelet

Abstract—The paper presentes a method combining fractal with wavelet for edges extraction. We firstly compute fractal dimension values of R, G, B components of every pixel in image, and synthesize color image by normalized fractal dimension values. Then we decompose histogram of synthetic image by wavelet transform to determine the threshold of extraction edges, at the same time, improve the thresholding segmentation based on wavelet transform – AEEM (Automatic Extraction Edges Method) which determines automatically the threshold. Our experimental results demonstrate that the approach can gain better segmentation than histogram-based approach.
