Abstract—There are many ferromagnetic particles dispersed in carrier oil in magnetorheological fluids. Assuming Newtonian motion, the forces between particles of different radius, including magnetic interaction, viscous force and contact interaction, are obtained, and the corresponding model for motion of particles is proposed. Under an external magnetic field, the microstructures in bidisperse magnetorheological fluids are simulated, and the mechanical properties under both external magnetic field and macroscopic shear strain are investigated. The influence of attached particles on the side of dipolar chains is analyzed. It shows that particle size ratio in bidisperse suspensions can influence the performance of MR fluids.
